The Conch Piercing
The Conch piercing , also called " Conch piercing " is an ear piercing located on the middle part of the ear, at the level of the cartilage. This is the place that has the largest surface area of cartilage in the ear.
Specificities of the conch piercing
There are two types of conch piercing : external and internal.
You can find conch piercings in the shape of a ring, then going around your ear, or you can also find small piercings with a jewel on the end.
Conch piercing healing process
The conch piercing will heal in much the same way as any other cartilage piercing. Cartilage takes longer to heal than other fleshier areas , and it varies greatly from person to person. The conch will take anywhere from 3 months to a year to fully heal , so be sure to see a piercing before ending aftercare practices.
Conch Piercing Aftercare Rules
Beyond typical aftercare practices, cartilage blood flow is lower than other areas of the body. So it heals differently than your lip or your earlobe.
Here are some things to keep in mind when treating a cartilage piercing, including the conch piercing:
-
Be careful with the things you put on your ears.
Headphones, hats, and even your hair expose your piercing to harmful bacteria that can cause infection. In the first few days after receiving your piercing, be sure to keep it away from foreign objects.
- Keep your hair in a ponytail.
- Opt for a headset that goes completely above your ear
- Don't put pressure on your new conch piercing.
- Stay away from hats.
-
Keep your jewelry.
Changing your jewelry can cause trauma to the skin around the piercing area, leading to complications such as scarring and piercing bumps . Do not twist or move jewelry while healing. This rule also applies when you sleep. Try not to sleep on the jewelry. If you sleep next to you, it might be a good idea to pierce your concha one at a time so you don't disrupt your sleep schedule.
-
Keep your conch piercing clean and dry.
Cartilage piercings, especially conch ones, are prone to bumps and other healing complications . Therefore, don't be lazy with your tracking practices. Keep your ear clean. Make sure the piercing area is free of earwax and dead skin. Use sheets and pillowcases every night. The conch piercing is adorable, but it doesn't look great when it's surrounded by bumps and scars. Help your piercing heal happily by keeping it clean and dry.
